Brussels Airport has inaugurated Brucargo Central, an 83,500 m² logistics redevelopment that boosts storage capacity by 30% and sets new standards for sustainability and operational efficiency. The €70 million project replaces eight outdated 1980s buildings with three modern warehouses and offices totalling 34,000 m², including 10,000 m² of new temperature-controlled storage—bringing total cold-chain capacity at the airport to 45,000 m².
Certified BREEAM-Excellent, Brucargo Central is fully fossil fuel-free, using solar panels, geothermal energy, heat pumps, and optimised water and air systems. The project also cuts paved surfaces by 20% to expand green areas and improve mobility, with a new car park for 500 vehicles, dedicated truck spaces, EV charging points, and safe pedestrian and cycling routes.
The site will host five logistics companies—Nippon Express, DSV Air & Sea, Hazgo, EV Cargo, and Deny Cargo—reflecting Brussels Airport’s role as Belgium’s top logistics hub and Europe’s largest pharmaceutical gateway, handling 733,000 tonnes of goods in 2024.
CEO Arnaud Feist said the development embodies the airport’s strategy to expand cargo capacity while advancing its net-zero carbon goal for 2030.
