Travellers departing Belgium can now take home a unique Belgian souvenir: a gift pack bringing together beers from all five recognised Belgian Trappist breweries for the first time.
Available at Brussels Airport, Brussels South Charleroi Airport and the Brussels-South Eurostar terminal, the “100% Belgian, 100% Trappist” box contains five iconic beers:
The initiative expands an existing airport gift pack that previously featured four Belgian Trappist beers, with the addition of Westvleteren 12 completing the collection of Belgium’s five Trappist breweries.
The project highlights the cooperation and shared values of Belgium’s Trappist communities, according to representatives of the participating breweries. The inclusion of Westvleteren 12 was made possible through the support of Saint Sixtus Abbey, although production at Westvleteren will not be increased.
Trappist beer production remains closely linked to the traditions and mission of the monastic communities. To carry the “Authentic Trappist Product” label, beer must be brewed within a Trappist abbey under the supervision of monks. Revenues from sales are used to support monastery operations, solidarity projects within the Trappist Order, development initiatives and charitable activities rather than maximising commercial profit.
The new gift pack offers international travellers a single showcase of Belgium’s renowned Trappist brewing heritage while promoting the cooperation between the country’s five Trappist abbeys.
