Last Thursday, Bassie, a two-year-old cat arrived at Brussels Airport. Bassie was adopted by a Dutch family and Simone van der Meiden picked up Bassie at Alanya, Turkey. Between offloading and drop-off on the carousel, however, the cat escaped from her kennel.
“When the new owners wanted to pick up Bassie at Zaventem, they learned that she was missing. The kennel was transported together with the other luggage, normally this shouldn’t be the case: animals traveling from outside Europe are required to follow another procedure,” Simone wrote on Facebook, “on the carousel we could only find the empty and damaged case.”
Today, Belgian friends of Simone started a search at and around Brussels Airport. Tomorrow, Simone will join her friends to lure the missing cat with some tuna. “Bassie must be very hungry, we hope to find her as soon as possible, unfortunately we are only allowed to look for her in the terminal building.”
TUI fly Belgium’s spokeswoman Sarah Saucin regrets the story but couldn’t give further information.
UPDATE: Bassie has been seen on cctv.
#WhereIsBassie ? The cat was spotted on CCTV. It would appear that the little fellow managed to escape from his cage shortly after being unloaded from the plane. Our airport colleagues are now doing the best they can to reunite Bassie with his owner as soon as possible. pic.twitter.com/kyht838cyE
