Brussels Airport has just informed us that, during works to the airport stands on apron 3, a World War II bomb was found.

The place where the bomb was found is at a safe distance of the terminal buildings and passenger operations.

DOVO/SEDEE (the Belgian Army’s explosive ordnance disposal unit) is on site and confirms that the bomb does not present any danger. It has nevertheless set a safety perimeter of 100 metres.

Operations have not been affected.

The bomb will be detonated tonight by DOVO/SEDEE. The buildings of Brussels Airport Company, KPMG and Deloitte must be empty. No people will be allowed on the windows of Pier B facing south.

Update: SEDEE/DOVO was able to dismantle the bomb without detonating it.

  1. The item in question is not a shell but an aircraft bomb. (A shell is fired and this Ine was dropped).
