More than 500,000 passengers at Bordeaux this June, on the eve of the summer holidays

June kept up the positive momentum in terms of traffic (+4.4%) and the airport achieved +5.7% growth in the first half of the year. With almost 250,000 passengers, international traffic has progressed by +10% compared to 2014, a solid trend before the school holidays start. Domestic traffic remains at the same level as in 2014. As a major tourist city, Bordeaux is once again amongst the leaders in the top 5 regional airports.

International flights increased by 10% in June. With more than 127,000 passengers, Northern Europe was on the rise by +13.9% thanks to Brussels with easyJet and Brussels Airlines (+47.3%) and Amsterdam with KLM and easyJet (20.4%). The British Isles rose by 6.8%: Liverpool in the lead with +72.6%, followed by London Stansted (42.1%) and Cork (33.4%).

The South of Europe also enjoyed good growth with +15.9%. Spain (+10.3%) and Italy (+8.1) have had a good start to the summer season: Milan (+34.4%), Madrid (24.6%), Venice (34.1%), Seville (25.2%), Ibiza (47.6%) and Malaga (+116%) with the arrival of Vueling which completes the Volotea offer.

Istanbul with Turkish airlines celebrated its 1st anniversary with excellent traffic figures (5,500 passengers), double those of 1 year ago. In June, Bordeaux launched the emblematic service to Athens with Aegean: a very positive first month for an airline that has recorded 2,000 passengers. On the other hand, current affairs are drawing the traffic away from North Africa (-6.8%), mainly Tunis which lost -27.9% and Djerba -50.4%.

Finally, with close to 130,000 passengers, international hubs, boosted partially by Vinexpo, scored very well: Lisbon +25%, Madrid +24.6%, Amsterdam +20.4% and Paris Charles-de-Gaulle + 7%.

Domestic traffic remained stable in June. However, certain “sunny” destinations stood out from the crowd, such as Corsica: Figari with Hop! and Volotea (+42.3%), Bastia (+23.3%) and Ajaccio (5.5%) with Volotea. The big cross-country cites did well: Nice (+8.2%) and Lyon (7.4%). Paris-Orly on the other hand slipped back by -4.5%.

Low cost airlines remained strong with growth of +9% and came close to one million passengers for the first half of the year. One month after the opening of the billi terminal extension, easyJet recorded +13.8% thanks to big passenger numbers to London Gatwick, Amsterdam and Geneva. Volotea recorded +23.9% traffic, boosted by numerous new lines (Corfu, Dubrovnik, Prague, Brest).
