Birmingham Airport caps record 2025 with busiest December ever

Share

Birmingham Airport (BHX) closed 2025 with its busiest December on record, handling 943,889 passengers, a 6.6% year-on-year increase. The strong finish crowned a record-breaking year, with 13.65 million passengers travelling through the airport—the highest annual total in its history.

December marked the tenth record month of 2025, driven by festive travel demand and the launch of new routes to destinations such as Grenoble, Suceava, and Salzburg. The performance coincided with BHX being named Best Medium-Sized UK Airport for Leisure Travel at the British Travel Awards 2025, reflecting improvements in customer experience and route connectivity.

Throughout 2025, Birmingham Airport advanced a series of major developments, including expanded next-generation security screening, new baggage facilities, the enlargement of World Duty Free, and the opening of the UK’s first Popeyes airport restaurant. The airport also unveiled a £300 million investment programme to support responsible growth and critical infrastructure upgrades.

Looking ahead, BHX plans to accelerate growth with the publication of a new Masterplan to 2041, alongside the continued delivery of its largest-ever capital investment programme.
