Ljubljana – tradition, history and modernity

Ljubljana Airport (LJU) is Slovenia’s biggest airport and is situated around 26 kilometres north of the city centre. Passengers can use an hourly shuttle bus service to reach the airport from the city centre. Ljubljana, with a population of 280,000, melds five thousand years of history and tradition with vibrant student life. The remains of the Roman city Emona, the well-preserved historical part of town, the medieval castle on the Castle Hill, and other periods of history all define the cityscape. With 65,000 students, the university in Ljubljana is one of the biggest in Europe. Musical performances and other events as well as the numerous parks cultivate a vibrant atmosphere and creative spirit, attracting a great many young people to the Slovenian capital.
