Berlin Brandenburg Airport handled 2.1 million passengers in April 2026, a decline of 4.1% compared with April 2025, as the ongoing Middle East conflict and strikes affecting Lufthansa disrupted travel demand and operations.
The airport said around 84,000 fewer passengers travelled on Middle East routes during the month, while Lufthansa strike-related cancellations affected approximately 40,000 additional passengers. Flight movements also fell 2.7% year-on-year to about 15,800.
Despite the decline, the Easter holiday period still generated strong seasonal traffic, with around 1.3 million travellers using BER between 27 March and 12 April. Easter Monday, 6 April, was the airport’s busiest day of the month, with more than 83,500 passengers.
Cargo traffic also declined slightly, with approximately 3,800 tonnes handled during the month, down 3.1% from a year earlier.
