Berlin Brandenburg Airport evacuated the public area of Terminal 1 on Thursday evening after a woman told Federal Police that she was carrying a potentially dangerous substance.
A hazardous-material alert was issued at approximately 17:45 after officials were unable to identify the substance or immediately exclude a risk. Passengers were ordered to leave the terminal while specialist emergency personnel examined the material.
The woman reportedly made no explicit threat, and authorities have not established any terrorist motive. No information has yet been released concerning the nature of the substance or her intentions.
Flight operations continued during the police response. Aircraft already prepared for departure were allowed to take off, while arriving flights continued to land. Passenger processing was transferred to Terminal 2 where capacity permitted.
Around 30 departures were delayed, but airport officials said they were attempting to avoid cancellations. Rail services serving the airport were also temporarily disrupted.
No definitive all-clear or final disruption figures had been issued at the time of publication.
