Nice 2017 annual results for Antwerp Airport

Share

In 2017, Antwerp Airport welcomed 273,167 passengers and the airport had 37,511 movements.

Results

In 2017, the airport had 273,167 passengers, a slight decrease of 1% compared to 2016 when 267,523 passengers were registered.

Several factors have influenced these results. In 2016, the results were influenced by the 20,000 additional passengers who flew via Antwerp after the attacks in Brussels in March and April. If these additional passengers were not taken into account, this would mean an increase of 6% in passenger numbers for Antwerp Airport. The uncertainties around CityJet and VLM also provided fewer passengers on flights to London City for a certain period of time.

The number of movements decreased by 9% with 37,511 movements in 2017 compared to 41,403 movements in 2016.

Future

At the end of 2017, TUI introduced flights to Innsbruck; these popular flights are doing particularly well for both those who want a short ski vacation and those who love the Austrian snow. On January 22, VLM will launch the new route from Antwerp to Zurich with two flights a day. Later this year, Antwerp Airport will welcome Flybe with flights to London Southend and will offer TUI flights to Florence.

Marcel Buelens, CEO of the airports of Antwerp and Ostend-Bruges says: “It is clear that more and more people are opting for the many advantages of the Flemish regional airports. In 2018 we will continue to build on the recent developments and not avoid new challenges. For example, there is still work to be done on accessibility and brand awareness abroad to attract more incoming visitors.”
