Possible drone activity was reported near Antwerp Airport and Ostend Airport over the weekend, according to skeyes, Belgium’s air navigation service provider.
At Antwerp Airport, a drone was reportedly sighted shortly before 20:00 on Saturday, but operations continued as normal with no impact on flights.
At Ostend Airport, however, a suspected drone was reported around 19:30 on Friday, prompting skeyes to temporarily suspend take-offs and landings as a precaution. During the same period, a pilot on approach reported being targeted by a laser beam, though the aircraft landed safely.
Air traffic controllers resumed operations after about 20 minutes, once it was deemed safe to do so.
Skeyes stressed that air safety was never compromised, and both airports remained open with scheduled traffic unaffected. Police reports have been filed for both incidents, and authorities are investigating.
