Madagascar unrest strands tourists and disrupts regional flights

Violent riots and a citywide curfew in Antananarivo, Madagascar have left groups of tourists—including Dutch travellers—stranded after multiple flight cancellations. Emirates and Turkish Airlines suspended services from Ivato International Airport, including three Emirates flights to and from Seychelles, amid escalating unrest over power and water shortages.

The disruptions are affecting travel and tourism links between Madagascar, Seychelles, and the UAE, with limited alternative flight options and strained accommodation.

The Dutch government has raised its travel warning to orange, advising against non-essential travel, while tour operators work to assist stranded passengers.

The unrest is adding further pressure to Madagascar’s already fragile tourism industry.
