Starting today, passengers taking part in the Personal Security Pass pilot project can go online and reserve a time slot for going through security control at Schiphol. This applies to several flights to Schengen-destinations from Tuesday 28 November through Monday 11 December 2017. Passengers travelling between 10:00 and 13:30 on these days can use the Pass to pass through an entry gate designed specifically for this purpose.

The entry gate will be open at security in Departure Hall 1, at check-in desk 1A, from tomorrow.  Applicable flights can be checked and time slots can be reserved from four days and up to one hour and 15 minutes before departure at schiphol.nl/securitypass and through the Schiphol App. With the Security Pass, Schiphol is testing to see whether travellers value the certainty of a fixed time to go through security and how such a programme would impact the influx of passengers at security control. If the pilot project proves successful, the Pass will be rolled out for general use.

How the Personal Security Pass works

At security control, a Schiphol employee will first scan the QR code in the email confirming the reservation. If the information is in order, the passenger will then scan his or her own boarding pass at the self-service security gate, after which he or she will pass through security using the dedicated entry gate. The dedicated entry gate for the Personal Security Pass is located in Departure Hall 1, at check-in desk 1A. Walking time from Departure Hall 1 is five minutes. Passengers who are checking in with their airline in Departure Hall 3 should allow for a ten-minute walk. During the pilot project, 30 passengers will be able to move through the Personal Security Pass entry gate every 15 minutes. Over 400 time slots will be available each day.

Safe and trouble-free

Security controls are a normal part of air travel. They are required by law and Schiphol always carries out its controls with precision, preferably in a manner that is as trouble-free as possible for the passenger. In addition to the Security Pass pilot project and the deployment of more staff (in effect since the summer holiday), the small bags only entry gates at security control are now open as standard during peak times at the airport. Finally, current waiting times, listed by flight number, are available at Schiphol.nl and in the Schiphol App.
