Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has wrapped up a smooth and well-coordinated operation during the recent NATO Summit, welcoming dozens of world leaders and their delegations while maintaining normal passenger traffic of 180,000 to 200,000 daily travellers.
Key highlights
Dedicated NATO area: Special facilities were set up for arrivals and departures, ensuring minimal disruption to regular air traffic.
Temporary NATO terminal: Used for passport checks, customs, and baggage handling.
Polderbaan runway (18R-36L): Served as a temporary parking zone for government aircraft, including Air Force One, aircraft from Ukraine, Canada, Germany, and the UK.
Efficient transfers: Delegations were received in a secure area before heading to The Hague’s World Forum.
Strong collaboration: The success was attributed to close cooperation between Schiphol and its partners, with CEO Pieter van Oord praising the effort as a showcase of aviation’s ability to connect countries even during high-stakes events.
The operation underscored Schiphol’s capability to manage large-scale diplomatic logistics without compromising regular airport services.
