Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is again facing widespread disruption as winter storm Goretti moves across northwestern Europe, prompting airlines to cancel dozens of flights on Friday.
Snow is expected to reach the airport by late afternoon, around 17:00 local time, leading airlines to proactively reduce both arrivals and departures. According to Schiphol, 63 outbound flights were cancelled in advance of the storm, the majority involving KLM services scheduled for the late afternoon and evening. On the inbound side, 62 arrivals were cancelled on Thursday and a further 20 on Friday.
The latest wave of cancellations comes on top of prolonged weather-related disruption. Since severe winter conditions began earlier this month, more than 3,500 flights have been cancelled at Schiphol, when snowfall and freezing conditions significantly impacted airport operations.
Eurocontrol warned that Storm Goretti is bringing very strong winds and persistent rain across the UK, France, Germany, the Benelux and Denmark, with precipitation over the Benelux and western Germany expected to turn increasingly wintry later in the day. Travellers are advised to closely monitor their flight status and allow extra time when travelling to or from Schiphol.
