There was a mechanical failure in Schiphol’s baggage system on Saturday morning, which was resolved on the same day. Unfortunately, this situation had a snowball effect on the baggage processes and many bags were subsequently left at the airport on Saturday. Half of those bags have now been sent to travellers. Schiphol and the airlines are now hard at work in getting all of the baggage back to other affected travellers in the fastest way possible. The airport has also engaged office staff to assist with this task, in addition to its baggage employees.

Schiphol would like to express its sincere regret for the situation to any affected travellers; it advises any travellers with baggage that was left behind to please contact their respective airlines.

Newspaper De Telegraaf featured news coverage about loose bags that were left under the viaduct and on airport grounds, which was only there for a short time. That baggage was then entered into the baggage system. Other bags that were left behind are stored in covered baggage carts.
