Work combined with major upgrades to Taxiway C to minimise impact on operations and residents

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport will close the Zwanenburgbaan runway from Monday, 27 October to Tuesday, 4 November for its annual maintenance, which coincides with extensive works on Taxiway C. During this period, the runway will be unavailable for air traffic, and flights will be rerouted to other runways — primarily the Polderbaan and Kaagbaan.

Maintenance Activities

Routine maintenance on the Zwanenburgbaan will include:

  • Asphalt and marking repairs
  • Inspection of electrical systems and cabling
  • Stormwater drainage cleaning
  • Grass mowing around the runway
  • Cleaning and replacement of lighting

On Taxiway C, major works will be carried out in collaboration with Heijmans, including:

  • Replacement of two asphalt layers and repairs to deeper layers
  • Improved rainwater drainage
  • Upgraded, energy-efficient LED lighting with new cabling and transformer pits

Use of Alternative Runways

During the closure, aircraft will take off and land on other runways, depending on wind conditions:

  • Departures: mainly from 18R/36L (Polderbaan), 06/24 (Kaagbaan), and occasionally 09/27 (Buitenveldertbaan)
  • Arrivals: more frequent use of 09/27 (Buitenveldertbaan) and Schiphol-Oostbaan (04/22)

Schiphol acknowledges that these changes may temporarily increase noise in some areas and says maintenance is scheduled to minimise disruption for local residents.
