Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Traffic and transport figures for June 2018: +3.8%

In June of this year, 6.4 million travellers flew from, to or via Schiphol, representing an increase of 3.8% relative to last year. Whereas normally June is quieter than May, which is a busy holiday period, this year passenger numbers in June were as high as in May.

The number of air transport movements decreased by 1.2% relative to a year ago. This is because there are slightly fewer slots available in this year’s summer season. Average aircraft size has increased by an average of 3.5 more seats per air transport movement. The occupancy rate has additionally risen by more than 2.1%, to 88.3%. The number of passengers departing from or arriving at Schiphol grew by 7.2%, while the number of transfer passengers decreased slightly (-1.7%).

Cargo

In June there were 11.1% fewer cargo flights than one year ago. The total volume of cargo decreased by only 3.5%, however, because more cargo (+6.4%) was transported on board passenger flights.

Passenger destinations

Almost 4.6 million passengers travelled within Europe, an increase of 2.0%. There was substantial growth in flights to and from Turkey (+18%), focusing on Antalya, Izmir, Dalaman and Bodrum.

Intercontinental traffic grew by 8.4%. Passenger volumes to India and Egypt increased almost 50% relative to a year ago, while Morocco attracted 30% more traffic than last year, most notably to Marrakesh and Casablanca. In South America, Brazil and Chile were both up by more than 20%.
