Schiphol Airport is suing the owners of a large solar farm near its 18R-36L (Polderbaan) runway, claiming that glare from the panels poses a safety risk to aircraft.
In March, the runway had to be closed for hours daily after pilots reported being blinded by reflections. The issue is expected to return in August, potentially disrupting flights and increasing noise for nearby residents.
Despite warnings, the local council approved the solar farm, which covers 100 hectares along the A9 motorway. Negotiations with the farm’s owners, local authorities, and the infrastructure ministry have failed, prompting the airport to seek a court order for the panels’ removal.
