Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Airport has officially opened its new Car Rental Service Center, one of the largest in Europe, spanning 40,000 m² on the site of the former P4 car park and accommodating around 2,500 vehicles. The five major rental companies at Schiphol—Avis Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt—are now operating from this centralised facility.
Designed by De Zwarte Hond (DZH), the centre prioritises sustainability with features such as a 17,000 m² solar-panel-covered roof, modular steel construction, bio-based office materials, and wooden facades. Water features and natural elements have been integrated throughout the site to enhance environmental impact.
The new facility also boosts operational capabilities. Hertz, for example, now operates its own workshop, three car washes, and manages a fleet of 1,100 EVs, supported by infrastructure capable of charging 52 electric vehicles simultaneously. The site includes ~7,000 solar panels providing renewable energy for daily operations.
Schiphol sees the centre as a key step in supporting sustainable mobility to and from the airport and helping rental companies accelerate their transition to electric fleets.
