Amsterdam Airport Schiphol will temporarily reduce airport charges by more than 10% for airlines, citing rising operational costs linked to the geopolitical situation in the Middle East and soaring kerosene prices.

The measure, which runs from April 27, 2026, through March 31, 2027, is designed to help carriers maintain essential air connections to and from the Netherlands during a period of heightened uncertainty. Schiphol says the move aims to safeguard connectivity, which is considered critical for economic stability, supply chains, and emergency operations such as repatriation.

The discount applies exclusively to daytime flights, with night operations excluded as part of the airport’s ongoing policy to discourage overnight traffic due to environmental concerns.

While the initiative will temporarily impact Schiphol’s financial results, the airport stressed that it will not affect its long-term investment plans. The operator maintains that it remains financially stable and committed to balancing operational costs with future infrastructure development.

The decision underscores the broader pressures facing the aviation sector, as airlines grapple with volatile fuel prices and geopolitical risks while trying to sustain global route networks.
