Security officers at Amsterdam airport Schiphol have announced a 24-hour strike on Tuesday, 4 September. Today (22 August), trade unions FNV Beveiliging and CNV Vakmensen, representing the workers gave notice to the airport authorities about their plans.

Mohamed Gafki, director at FNV Beveiliging says: “We will go on strike on different locations and for other companies, but we gave Schiphol already a notice, as a 24-hour strike has consequences for the airport and for air traffic. Now, arrangements can be made for passengers as they can be informed in due time.”

For six weeks now, security officers at Schiphol are holding 15-minute work stoppages, five times per day, yet without any result, according to Arie Kasper (CNV vakmensen) : “Security officers want a good collective labour agreement, healthier schedules, a salary increase and more security. But so far, the employers refuse to meet these requirements.”
