Heavy thunderstorms around Alicante Airport seriously disrupted air traffic on Thursday evening. The airport authority was forced to close the airport for air traffic, 13 flights diverted to other airports. Other flights got delayed, one cancelled. Meanwhile, the airport reopened.
Update: “Gota Fria” or “Cold Drop” is affecting air traffic at its east coast, disrupting air traffic at the airports of Almeria, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona.
Andy Grant, one of the passengers on a Jet2 flight from Birmingham went to twitter and said: “So here we are in Malaga because Alicante airport is closed! We are getting the replacement bus service. Only a five hour drive. Happy days. — in Málaga.“
easyJet also reached out to a worried passenger and tweeted: “I’m pleased to say flights are now beginning to leave and arrive at Alicante Airport again, Chris! However, I recommend keeping an eye on our flight tracker for the latest available info.”
Vueling cancelled its flight from Brussels to Alicante.
