Air traffic at Aalborg Airport (Denmark) was disrupted again on Thursday night after suspected drones were spotted in the vicinity. Authorities closed the airspace at 23:40 local time as a precaution and reopened it just under an hour later at 00:35 on Friday, according to Danish police.
The incident forced KLM flight KL1289 from Amsterdam to Aalborg, operated by German Airways, to turn back to Amsterdam. KLM confirmed the diversion, citing “a suspicious situation in the airspace.” In addition, an SAS flight from Copenhagen to Aalborg was cancelled.
It marks the second night in a row that KLM operations to Aalborg have been affected. On Wednesday, another KL1289 flight was diverted to Billund for the same reason. At that time, police said four aircraft had been impacted by drone activity in Aalborg’s airspace.
“We do not know their purpose or who controls them,” a police spokesperson said earlier this week.
The incidents come amid broader concerns in Scandinavia about drone activity near airports. On Monday, Copenhagen Airport faced hours of disruption after drone sightings, which Danish officials described as the work of “a professional party.” Both the Danish Prime Minister and the European Commission have suggested possible Russian involvement, though Moscow has denied any role. Similar disturbances have also been reported near Oslo Airport in Norway.
The investigation into the Aalborg drone sightings is ongoing, with Danish police yet to confirm who is behind the repeated incursions.
