Swedavia’s airports handled just over 3.3 million passengers in July 2026, an increase of nearly 2% compared with the same month last year, driven by continued growth in international travel despite a sharp decline in domestic traffic.

International passenger numbers across Swedavia’s network of ten airports increased by 4%, while domestic traffic fell by 13%, reflecting reduced airline capacity and weaker demand. The airport operator also noted that geopolitical developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East, continue to create uncertainty for the autumn travel season.

Arlanda records busiest July for international travel

Stockholm Arlanda Airport welcomed just under 2.5 million passengers during the month, an increase of just over 1% year-on-year.

International traffic rose by more than 3% to over 2.2 million passengers, setting a new July record and surpassing the previous high established in July 2018 by approximately 10,000 passengers.

Domestic traffic, however, declined by nearly 16% to just over 214,000 passengers.

Landvetter also posts growth

Sweden’s second-largest airport, Göteborg Landvetter, handled almost 624,000 passengers, up 2% compared with July 2025.

International travel increased by more than 3% to 601,000 passengers, while domestic traffic fell by 21% to around 23,000 passengers.

Mixed performance across regional airports

Traffic at Swedavia’s remaining airports showed mixed results.

Åre Östersund Airport recorded the strongest overall growth, with passenger numbers rising 178%, largely driven by increased domestic traffic. Malmö Airport also posted strong growth of 17%, supported primarily by expanding international services.

Meanwhile, Bromma Stockholm Airport continued to operate at only a fraction of its former size, handling just over 7,300 passengers during July—equivalent to only 5% of its pre-pandemic traffic levels in 2019.

Overall, the July figures underline the continued recovery in international air travel across Sweden, while the domestic market remains under pressure from reduced capacity and changing travel demand.
