The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s airports set a new all-time passenger record in August 2025, welcoming 13.8 million travellers — the busiest month ever across the agency’s four commercial airports.

International traffic surged to a historic high, with 5.5 million passengers, reflecting strong summer travel demand.

JFK Airport led the way, handling 6.2 million passengers — its busiest month on record. LaGuardia posted its busiest August ever with 3 million travellers, while Newark Liberty saw its first year-on-year growth since January, processing 4.5 million passengers, a 4% increase over August 2024 despite earlier air traffic control challenges.

The Labor Day holiday period also set a new record, with 2.5 million passengers moving through the airports between August 28 and September 2, up 2% on last year’s peak.

Over the first eight months of 2025, the airports handled 95.4 million passengers, down 2.2% from 2024 — a gap attributed largely to Newark’s earlier FAA-related capacity constraints.
