Avinor reports moderate passenger growth in October, driven by international travel

Share

Passenger traffic at Avinor’s airports saw moderate growth in October, with 4.8 million passengers passing through – a 2% increase compared to the same month last year.

Domestic traffic reached 2.8 million passengers (+2%), while international travel rose 1% to 1.9 million passengers. The number of commercial flight movements also increased slightly, up 1% to 57,023.

Avinor notes that October traditionally brings stable traffic levels, with the autumn holidays supporting consistent activity. “The autumn holiday contributed to steady activity, but without significant changes compared to last year,” said Gaute Skallerud Riise, VP Traffic Development at Avinor.

Winter Season Outlook

The winter schedule began at the end of October, marking the transition to a quieter travel period. Avinor forecasts 1% overall growth between November and March, driven by 3% growth in international traffic, while domestic travel is expected to decline by about 1%.

“We see a clear trend where international travel continues to grow while domestic numbers soften,” Riise said. “Collaboration with the tourism sector to attract more winter visitors will be key to balancing seasonal fluctuations.”

Key October Figures

  • Total passengers: 4.8 million (+2%)

Record Drone Activity

“More people than ever are flying drones responsibly and safely,” said Mats Gjertsen, Head of Avinor’s Drone Program. “We’re pleased to see responsible drone use becoming the norm in Norway.”
