Aena has agreed to acquire 51% of a new holding company that owns and operates 100% of Leeds Bradford Airport and 49% of Newcastle Airport for £270 million (€309 million), further consolidating its footprint in the United Kingdom. The transaction builds on Aena’s existing UK presence, where it already holds a 51% stake in London Luton Airport.
Together, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle handled around 9.5 million passengers last year. Combined with Luton’s 17 million passengers, Aena’s UK portfolio would total approximately 26.5 million passengers annually. InfraBridge, the seller, will retain 49% of the new holding company, reinforcing its role as Aena’s long-term strategic partner in the UK.
The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed in Q2 2026. Aena’s Chairman and CEO, Maurici Lucena, described the acquisition as a strategic step to selectively grow in markets where Aena already has experience and sees strong long-term potential.
Leeds Bradford Airport handled 4.3 million passengers in its last financial year, generating £56.5 million in revenues and £20.6 million in EBITDA (36.4% margin). The airport is undergoing a multi-phase investment programme, LBA:REGEN, including terminal expansion, refurbishment and future parking stand development. It holds Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 3 and targets net zero by 2030.
Newcastle Airport served 5.2 million passengers in 2024, with £89.5 million in revenues and £50.2 million EBITDA (56% margin). The airport has development land for future growth and holds Airport Carbon Accreditation Level 4, aiming for net zero by 2035.
Overall, the acquisition strengthens Aena’s strategic position in the UK airport market, expands its passenger base, and deepens its partnership with InfraBridge while supporting long-term growth and sustainability objectives.
