Spanish airport operator Aena reported 29.99 million passengers across its global network in March 2026, a 4.3% year-on-year increase, alongside 264,381 aircraft movements (+6%) and 127,610 tonnes of freight (+0.5%).
Growth was primarily driven by Spain, where airports handled 24.7 million passengers (+3.9%), although at a slightly slower pace than the previous year. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport remained the busiest, followed by Barcelona-El Prat Airport and Málaga.
Several airports—including Gran Canaria and Sevilla—set all-time March passenger records, contributing to a record month across the network.
International operations also performed strongly, with Aena’s Brazilian airports posting 7.2% passenger growth, while London Luton Airport saw modest passenger gains but a sharp decline in cargo due to runway works.
Overall, first-quarter traffic reached 81.3 million passengers (+3.8%), supported by seasonal factors and modal shifts from rail to air travel.
