Share

Aena Group airports welcomed 35.76 million passengers in September 2025, a 2.7% increase compared with the same month last year, continuing the company’s strong post-summer performance. Aircraft movements rose 2.4% to 299,292, while freight volumes surged 9.9% to 132,905 tonnes.

From January to September 2025, Aena’s global network handled 294.1 million passengers (+4.1%), 2.5 million aircraft movements (+2.4%), and 1.1 million tonnes of freight (+6.9%) across its airports in Spain, the UK and Brazil.

Spain: Strong Passenger and Cargo Momentum

Airports across Spain recorded 30.4 million passengers in September, 2.5% higher year-on-year, alongside a 4.1% increase in operations (249,904 flights) and 9% freight growth (118,549 tonnes).

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas led with 5.92 million passengers (+1.2%), followed by Barcelona-El Prat (5.28m, +4.3%), Palma de Mallorca (4.11m, +0.9%), Málaga (2.63m, +5%), and Alicante-Elche (1.91m, +5.9%).

Seventeen Spanish airports—including Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Alicante, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, and Valencia—achieved their best September ever for passenger traffic.
Cargo growth was also exceptional: Madrid-Barajas (+10.4%) and Barcelona-El Prat (+18.5%) both hit record September volumes.

Brazil: Freight Growth Leads Performance

Aena’s 17 Brazilian airports saw 3.76 million passengers (+4.1%), though aircraft movements fell 7.3%. Freight traffic surged 23.8%, reaching 11,828 tonnes.
Recife led the ANB group with 822,533 passengers (+5.6%) and 6,252 tonnes of cargo (+26.9%), while São Paulo Congonhas topped the BOAB group with 2.02 million passengers (+3.4%).

London Luton: Continued Passenger Gains

London Luton Airport handled 1.59 million passengers (+3.3%) in September and 12,268 aircraft movements (+1.7%), maintaining steady growth despite a slight 2.9% drop in freight.

Aena noted that the month marked record September traffic across its global network and continued progress in its strategy to strengthen connectivity, efficiency and operational performance across Spain, the UK, and Latin America.
