Aena Group airports handled 40.9 million passengers in July 2026, an increase of 4.9% compared with the same month last year, as passenger traffic continued to grow across Spain, the United Kingdom and Brazil.
The group, which operates airports in Spain and Brazil as well as London Luton and Leeds Bradford, handled 341,080 aircraft movements during the month, up 5.4%. Cargo traffic, however, declined by 5.4% to 123,510 tonnes.
Aena’s Spanish airports accounted for 34.4 million passengers, 5% more than in July 2025. Madrid-Barajas remained the busiest with 6.47 million passengers, up 4.8%, followed by Barcelona-El Prat with 5.87 million (+6%) and Palma de Mallorca with 4.70 million (+2.2%).
Strong growth was recorded at several Mediterranean airports. Málaga handled 3.05 million passengers, up 6.3%, while Alicante and Valencia both recorded increases of 11.1%, reaching 2.34 million and 1.26 million passengers respectively.
Outside Spain, London Luton Airport recorded particularly strong growth, handling 1.85 million passengers, an increase of 8.9%. Leeds Bradford, which joined the Aena Group in May, handled 531,935 passengers, up 2.9%.
Aena’s 17 Brazilian airports handled 4.11 million passengers, 2.6% more than a year earlier. São Paulo Congonhas was the largest contributor with 2.18 million passengers, up 2.5%, while Recife handled 861,916, down 1.4%.
During the first seven months of 2026, the Aena Group handled almost 231 million passengers, representing year-on-year growth of 4%. Aircraft movements increased 3.6% to nearly two million, while cargo volumes were broadly stable, declining by 0.2%.
In Spain alone, passenger numbers reached 190.7 million between January and July, up 4%, although Aena noted that the pace of growth was marginally below that recorded during the corresponding period of 2025.
