Wizz Air UK has received regulatory approval to operate flights between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking a significant operational milestone for the low-cost carrier.
The airline confirmed that the newly granted authorisation allows it to run flights across the Atlantic, although it stressed that it has no plans to launch scheduled commercial services on the route. Instead, the approval will enable Wizz Air UK to offer tailored charter flights, particularly for European football teams and supporters travelling to the United States for major tournaments this summer.
“This is a proud and exciting day for everyone at our airline,” said Yvonne Moynihan, Managing Director of Wizz Air UK. “Receiving approval to operate between the UK and the United States is a huge milestone for our company. It opens the door to incredible opportunities, particularly for European football teams and supporters travelling across the Atlantic this summer.”
The carrier expects strong demand from teams participating in international competitions, with charter packages designed to provide flexible scheduling, comfort and efficient group travel.
Beyond sports-related journeys, the charter services will also be available to corporate groups, tour operators, sports organisations, and private travellers seeking dedicated transatlantic connections.
Moynihan said the approval reflects months of regulatory coordination and operational preparation by the airline. “This achievement reflects the dedication and professionalism of our entire team,” she added. “We are excited to welcome passengers on board and to celebrate this new chapter as we expand our reach across the Atlantic.”
Charter enquiries for the upcoming summer travel season are now open.
