Wizz Air has announced plans to introduce Starlink connectivity across its fleet starting in 2027, marking a major shift in low-cost airline onboard connectivity in Europe.
The ultra-low-cost carrier says the rollout will make it possible for passengers to access high-speed, low-latency internet throughout flights, effectively eliminating the traditional requirement to switch devices to airplane mode for the duration of travel.
According to the airline:
The airline describes the initiative as a major upgrade to its customer experience, bringing what has typically been a premium cabin feature into the low-cost segment.
Once operational, passengers would be able to:
Wizz Air frames the move as part of a broader strategy to make digital connectivity a standard feature of affordable air travel rather than a premium add-on.
Inflight Wi-Fi has traditionally been limited, expensive, or inconsistent on many European short- and medium-haul carriers, particularly in the ultra-low-cost segment. If fully implemented, Wizz Air would become one of the first low-cost airlines in Europe to offer fleet-wide satellite internet connectivity at scale.
The announcement signals increasing competition among airlines to differentiate through onboard digital services rather than only price and network coverage.
