Wizz Air expands Warsaw and Rome bases with new aircraft and dozens of new routes

Share

Wizz Air has announced major parallel expansions at two of its key European bases, Warsaw Chopin and Rome Fiumicino, reinforcing its long-term growth strategy with additional aircraft, new routes, and significant capacity increases for summer 2026.

In Warsaw, Wizz Air will base its 15th Airbus A321neo at Chopin Airport from summer 2026, launching five new routes to Faro, Bra?ov, Lamezia Terme, Tallinn, and Minorca, which becomes a brand-new destination in the airline’s network. The expansion will add over 500,000 additional seats, supporting double-digit capacity growth versus 2025 and increasing Wizz Air’s market share at the airport to around 25%, confirming its leadership among low-cost carriers. With 62 routes across 27 countries from Warsaw, the airline continues to strengthen connectivity while operating one of Europe’s youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets.

At Rome Fiumicino, Wizz Air will also deploy its 15th A321neo, further cementing the capital as the airline’s largest base in Italy. The aircraft supports the launch of eight new international routes to Malta, Minorca, Varna, Rhodes, Kefalonia, Tallinn, Constan?a, and Pristina, alongside recent frequency increases on high-demand routes such as London Luton, Malaga, Valencia, Tel Aviv, and Sharm El-Sheikh. The Rome base will grow to 72 routes in 28 countries, reflecting strong demand and close cooperation with Aeroporti di Roma.

Together, the twin expansions highlight Wizz Air’s sustained investment in both Poland and Italy. In 2025 alone, the airline carried nearly 14 million passengers in Poland and over 20 million in Italy, while maintaining completion rates close to 99.8% and improving on-time performance. Operating predominantly with A321neo aircraft that emit less CO? and noise, Wizz Air positions both Warsaw and Rome as cornerstone bases in its European network, delivering affordable growth, enhanced connectivity, and operational efficiency.
