Maastricht Aachen Airport secures first direct Netherlands–Bosnia route as Wizz Air launches Tuzla service

Share

Maastricht Aachen Airport inaugurated the first-ever direct air connection between the Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina with the launch of Wizz Air’s Maastricht–Tuzla service on 12 December. The low-cost carrier will operate the route twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays, with additional Wednesday flights scheduled through 7 January to accommodate holiday demand. The inaugural flight will be welcomed in the presence of the Honorary Consul of Hungary, marking the start of a new strategic partnership between the airport and Wizz Air.

The new connection supports Maastricht Aachen Airport’s long-term vision of becoming a future-ready regional hub handling 600,000 passengers and 200,000 tonnes of cargo annually by 2030. According to airport leadership, the Tuzla route addresses growing demand from both first- and next-generation migrants travelling to visit family and friends, while also opening access to lesser-known destinations in the Balkans.

From the 2026 summer season, Wizz Air will expand operations from Maastricht with six additional destinations across Eastern and Central Europe, including Katowice, Lublin, Bucharest, Chisinau and Podgorica. In total, the carrier will offer 16 weekly flights from Maastricht during peak season.

All services will be operated with the Airbus A321neo, a quieter and more fuel-efficient aircraft aligned with the airport’s sustainability objectives. With a capacity for 239 passengers, the A321neo will support both the airport’s growth ambitions and Wizz Air’s continued expansion in the Dutch market.
