Budapest Airport celebrates the arrival of S18 by welcoming the start of Wizz Air’s new summer schedule this week. As part of the airline’s plans to base two further aircraft at the airport, the low-cost carrier (LCC) launched its inaugural flight to Stavanger on 15 March, to be joined later this week by the airline’s new connection to Athens on 25 March.

Launching services to Bergen last April, Wizz Air was quick to announce the decision to add Stavanger to Budapest’s Scandinavian network: “Norway has shown a consistent traffic growth for us and, with the potential market size of 26,000 passengers each year, we were thrilled to see Wizz Air fill another white spot on our route map,” states Balázs Bogáts, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport.

Wizz Air’s 65th route from Budapest – the LCC’s twice-weekly link to Stavanger – joins existing services to Oslo and Bergen, meaning the capital city airport will offer over 2,500 weekly seats to the Scandinavian country in 2018. Another result of the carrier’s Summer 2018 expansion will see Budapest witness over 500 flights to the Greek capital this summer as the airline launches its four times weekly service to Athens later this week.

Having observed a healthy 19% year-on-year increase in passenger traffic at the Hungarian gateway in 2017, the home-based airline is set to offer more than 1.7 million seats from Budapest this summer, an additional 300,000 seats more than in Summer 2017.
