Even faster to the Fjords of Norway: On 14 August, the airline Widerøe will celebrate the inaugural flight of its new direct service from Hamburg to the Norwegian city of Bergen. The route to Bergen will be served three times per week, with flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Modern, 114-seat Embraer E-190-E2 airliners are being used on the route. Widerøe was the world’s first airline to incorporate this model into its fleet. And in another first, this is Widerøe’s debut at Hamburg Airport.

Bergen is an attractive destination for anyone travelling to Scandinavia,” says Dr Joergen Kearsley, Head of Aviation Marketing at Hamburg Airport. “Whether it’s the destination for your city trip, a stop on a regional tour or the starting point of a cruise, Bergen is a city of multifaceted attractions. So we are delighted by Widerøe’s commitment and warmly welcome the airline to Hamburg.

Deployment of modern, environmentally friendly aircraft
Widerøe was the first airline anywhere in the world to deploy the Embraer E-190-E2 aircraft, launching a new, environmentally friendly generation of airliners. The Embraer E-190-E2 is designed with state-of-the-art engine technology. Its fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are lower than comparably sized aircraft. Widerøe has set itself the target of becoming one of the world’s most environmentally friendly airlines.

Bergen – historic port city and gateway to the fjords
Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city, is well-known as a popular tourist destination and a thriving port city. The city has been described as a “modern metropolis with provincial charm”, and benefits from a combination of modernity and living history. And just like Hamburg, Bergen has historical links with the Hanseatic League. As one of the principal seats of the Hanseatic League, Bergen was for several centuries a hub of the flourishing trade between Norway and the rest of the world. The old waterfront of Bryggen is the most striking remnant of this time. Today, it is filled with pubs and restaurants, arts and crafts shops, and history museums. The “Fløibahn” funicular is also very popular with visitors, bringing them quickly and comfortably to the summit of Fløyen, where an impressive panorama over the city and the fjord awaits.

The area around Bergen is perfect for nature lovers, whilst the port of Bergen is the perfect starting point for cruises through the fjords of Norway. Bergen also has ideal onward connections to other destinations in Norway and throughout northern and eastern Europe.

Flights to Bergen on Widerøe can be booked online at www.wideroe.no/en or at your travel agent’s.
