On 10 September, a Swoop Boeing 737-800 (C-GXRW) operated domestic flight WO312 between Abbotsford and Edmonton, Canada. Shortly after take-off, the right hand engine suffered a bird strike. The pilots decided to return to Abbotsford and safely landed 21 minutes after initial departure.
The ultra low-cost airline, a subsidiary of WestJet, confirmed the incident and stated that all passengers and crew members safely left the aircraft. During an inspection of the engine, however, the impact of the bird required further maintenance hence the airline scheduled a replacement Boeing 737-800 (C-FONK) which departed Abbotsford as WO2312.
14 hours after the originally scheduled flight, the passengers were finally on their way to Edmonton. “We apologize to impacted travellers for the disruption and thank you for your continued patience,” the airline added in a statement.
