Errare humanum est, but this is definitely a strange story: on 25 March, a WDL Aviation BAe 146-200 (D-AMGL) operating flight BA3271 between London City and Dusseldorf flew to …. Edinburgh.

What happened? the aircraft safely left London City airport, but the flight directly headed to Edinburgh instead of the German airport after “incorrectly submitted flight paperwork” according to BBC.

Son Tran, a passenger on board tweeted: “British Airways, can you please explain how can my morning flight taking off from LCY to Dusseldorf land in Edinburgh ?? While an interesting concept, I don’t think anyone on board has signed up for this mystery travel lottery…

A British Airways social media agent replied that: “the flight has been diverted to Edinburgh, we don’t have any information as to why at the moment. There is an estimated departure time of 10:30 from Edinburgh to make way to Dusseldorf.

British Airways is now working with WDL Aviation to find out why the airline filed the wrong flight plan. Meanwhile, the aircraft left Edinburgh and landed at Dusseldorf roughly four hours after the standard arrival time.

Meanwhile, a funny on-board footage appeared online (see below)

Ryanair make a joke about this article on Twitter, but landed in 2006 on a military airbase.

  1. “We filed the wrong flight plan by mistake, and only discovered that when we arrived at the wrong destination”

A metaphor for modern Britain … Brexit anyone?
