Starting Monday, November 4, 2019, the airline Volotea will link Toulouse to Hamburg, and connect two of the main Airbus sites for five years. The agreement was reached after a bidding process in which many other carriers participated.
The Spanish low-cost airline has been chosen by Airbus to operate the Airbus Air Shuttle Service, which operates flights to connect the main Airbus hubs in Toulouse and Hamburg over the next five years. Thanks to this agreement, Airbus employees will be able to fly between the two centres from Monday to Friday. Volotea will operate two daily round trips.
Two dedicated Airbus A319 aircraft will operate on this route “specifically adapted to the needs of Airbus employees with a different seat configuration and a tailored catering service,” says the airline.
“A new base in Hamburg will be opened by Volotea, in order to meet this contract, aircrew positions and recruitment sessions are currently offered in Germany on the Volotea recruitment website. Thanks to these operations, ten new jobs will be created in Hamburg by Volotea,” says the company.
“We are very proud to have been selected by Airbus for their shuttle service linking the Toulouse and Hamburg Finkenwerder sites. This is proof of trust, reliability and excellent cooperation between Airbus and Volotea,” said Carlos Muñoz, founder and CEO of Volotea.
“We are proud to be joined by Volotea as the new partner of our Airbus charter service for double daily flights between our largest production sites in Toulouse and Hamburg,” said Christian Scherer, Airbus’ sales manager. “Our versatile A319 is perfectly suited for this short-haul high-demand route. Offering up to 160 seats, an optimised cabin section and an extra-wide aisle for faster turnaround times, productivity gains go hand in hand with comfort.”
Volotea operates 36 aircraft: 19 A319s and 17 Boeing 717s, which will be phased out by 2022 when the airline plans to become an all-Airbus operator.
