Volotea has announced the opening of a new operational base at Montpellier–Méditerranée Airport in autumn 2026, marking its 20th base in Europe and 11th in France. The move underlines France’s position as the airline’s largest market and strengthens Volotea’s long-standing presence in Montpellier, where it has operated since 2012 and offered more than 3 million seats.
The new base will see one Airbus A320 stationed in Montpellier, creating around 30 direct jobs and more than 170 indirect jobs. From autumn 2026, Volotea will launch four new routes from Montpellier to Bordeaux, Madrid, Tenerife South and Lanzarote, while also significantly increasing overall capacity in 2026 and 2027.
In 2025, Volotea operates eight routes from Montpellier and offers a record 370,000 seats. The addition of the base is expected to further enhance regional connectivity, support the local economy in eastern Occitanie, and complement existing low-cost services at the airport, with further route expansion planned from 2027 onward.
