In 2018, Volotea is operating 29 routes from Bordeaux, including 20 exclusive destinations with a total number of 286,000 seats, an increase of 56% compared with 2017

A few months after celebrating the 5th anniversary of its Bordeaux base, Volotea, the airline for Europe’s regional capitals, has this week launched two new routes from Bordeaux, one to Menorca (on 30 May), the other to Cagliari (31 May). The airline has also resumed two of its seasonal flights, to Toulon and Ibiza. Focus on these new direct flights putting residents of the Bordeaux area within easy reach of even more summer destinations.

Since arriving on the Bordeaux runways in 2012, Volotea has continually increased its flight rotations and the number of destinations offered by the company has grown every year. Today, Volotea flies to 29 destinations, 20 of which it operates on an exclusive basis. It is soon expected to carry its 2 millionth Bordeaux passenger since 2012. In 2018, Volotea is proposing 736,000 seats, a 22% increase on the previous year, reaching an occupancy rate of 84%

Volotea is pursuing that growth this year with the launch of 3 new routes from Bordeaux:
Madeira-Funchal since 5 April with a weekly flight every Thursday and a total of more than 6,000 seats
Minorca, since 30 May with once- or twice-weekly flights (Mondays and Wednesdays or Thursdays), around 9,000 seats
Cagliari, from 31 May with a weekly flight on Thursdays, approximately 6,000 seats

Volotea is also resuming 2 seasonal routes:
Ibiza, since 28 May with a twice-weekly flight on Mondays and Thursdays, more than 8,700 seats
Toulon, since 30 May, with a weekly flight on Wednesdays and 2 weekly flights in July and August, on Mondays and Thursdays.

So in 2018, Volotea is flying from Bordeaux to 29 destinations including 5 in France: Ajaccio, Bastia, Figari, Strasbourg and Toulon, 6 in Italy: Naples, Olbia, Palermo, Pisa, Venice and Cagliari, 9 in Spain: Alicante, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Madrid, Malaga, Minorca, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife, 2 in Croatia: Split and Dubrovnik, 2 in Greece: Corfu and Santorini, 1 in Germany: Munich, 2 in Portugal: Faro and Madeira, 1 in the Czech Republic: Prague, and Malta.

“We are very pleased to be launching these two new routes from Gironde’s capital city, thanks to consistent growth in Bordeaux. Over the last 4 months, we have operated approximately 500 flights and carried around 60,000 passengers. The people of Bordeaux can now benefit from direct flights at competitive prices to Minorca and Cagliari, as well as revisiting Toulon or Ibiza” says Edo Friart, the airline’s Director of International Development.

Pascal Personne, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport Management Company, states: “Volotea’s flight offer from Bordeaux is growing strongly, year by year. It is the key to Volotea’s success. This summer, the airline’s network boasts a wealth of destinations for the residents of Nouvelle Aquitaine.  ”

VOLOTEA CONTINUES TO GROW

Volotea has reached the milestone of a total 15 million passengers transported since its first flight in 2012, including more than 4.8 million in 2017.

In 2018, Volotea is launching 58 new routes, bringing its total number to 293 and connecting 78 European regional capitals across 13 countries: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Albania, Portugal, Malta, Austria, Ireland and Luxembourg. The airline expects to carry between 5.7 and 6 million passengers in 2018.

Volotea currently operates via 12 bases: Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias, Verona, Toulouse, Genoa, Bilbao, Marseilles and Athens. The last three were inaugurated earlier this year.

Volotea employs 875 people and is accompanying its growth with the creation of 250 new posts in 2018.

This year, Volotea operates its network with a 32-strong fleet made up of Boeing 717 and Airbus A319 aircraft. Both models are reputed for their reliability and comfort, offering seats that are 5% more spacious than average.

The Airbus A319, the airline’s preferred model for future growth, will enable the airline to increase passenger capacity by 20%, from 125 to 150 seats, and to carry passengers over longer distances.

Volotea won the title of best airline in France, Italy & Spain by TripAdvisor’s 2017 Travellers’ Choice awards, in the “Regional and Low-cost Airlines” category.
