Volaris carries 2.5 million passengers in September as international traffic jumps 14%

Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier Volaris transported 2.5 million passengers in September 2026, with international traffic continuing to outperform its domestic market.

Total capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASMs), increased by a modest 1.9% year-on-year, while revenue passenger miles (RPMs) grew by 3.1%. This pushed the consolidated load factor up one percentage point to 84.4%.

The performance differed substantially between markets. Domestic Mexican traffic fell 3.8%, while international RPMs increased by a strong 14.2%, highlighting the growing importance of Volaris’ international network.

For the entire third quarter, capacity increased 11.1%, almost evenly divided between domestic growth of 11.0% and international growth of 11.2%. The quarterly load factor improved by 1.3 percentage points to 85.7%.

President and CEO Enrique Beltranena said the airline deliberately moderated its capacity growth in September, with capacity down 22% compared with the summer peak.

According to Volaris, the more disciplined deployment of capacity helped support both load factors and unit revenues at a time of elevated fuel prices.

The September figures consequently show a marked slowdown in capacity expansion compared with the third quarter as a whole, while demand continued to grow faster than available capacity. International traffic remained the principal growth driver, offsetting weaker demand in the Mexican domestic market.
