Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA) has taken delivery of its first Embraer E190-E2, which arrived in Perth on September 8, 2025, after a 25,000 km journey from Brazil. The jet, named Coral Bay, is the 1,900th E-Jet delivered globally and will be based at VARA’s new maintenance hangar at Perth Airport.
The E190-E2 will initially serve charter operations across Western Australia, with flexibility to operate passenger services when demand allows. Featuring a dual-class cabin, 2-2 seating with no middle seats, in-seat power, and overhead bin space, the aircraft offers an upgraded passenger experience. High-speed Wi-Fi will be installed from 2026.
Virgin Australia has eight E190-E2s on order, worth over US$500 million at list prices, with four due within 12 months. The aircraft will replace VARA’s ageing Fokker 100s by early 2026, delivering a 30% fuel-efficiency improvement, lower noise emissions, and SAF capability of up to 100%.
Executives from Virgin Australia, Embraer, and Perth Airport hailed the delivery as a milestone for Western Australia, highlighting its benefits for charter clients, regional connectivity, and sustainability. The aircraft will begin service in October on routes to destinations including Darwin, Kalgoorlie, Karratha, Port Hedland, and Broome.
