On 1 September and during the night, a UTair Boeing 737-800 (VQ-BJI) suffered a runway excursion at Sochi Airport while landing during a thunderstorm. The aircraft, performing flight UT579 from Moscow Vnukovo, hit a fence and caught fire on landing. The aircraft was evacuated using the emergency slides, 18 passengers have reportedly been injured.
