United Airlines has introduced a new long-haul economy concept, the “Relax Row,” designed to offer passengers a more comfortable, couch-like experience without upgrading to premium cabins.
Set to debut in 2027, the product converts a row of three standard economy seats into a flat, mattress-style surface using adjustable leg rests. Targeted at families, couples, and solo travellers, the offering includes added amenities such as a fitted mattress pad, extra pillows, blankets, and children’s comfort items.
The Relax Row will be progressively installed across more than 200 widebody aircraft—including Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Boeing 777—by 2030, with up to 12 such sections per aircraft. Positioned between standard economy and premium economy, it creates a new mid-tier comfort option.
United becomes the first North American carrier to introduce this type of seating and holds regional exclusivity on the design. The initiative aligns with broader efforts by airlines to enhance long-haul economy travel, particularly for families, through improved seating, onboard services, and tailored amenities.
