A SkyWest Airlines flight operating as United Express from Aspen to Houston was diverted to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport on Thursday evening after encountering severe turbulence and a pressurisation issue, according to the FAA.
Flight UA5971, an Embraer E175 registered N110SY, carrying 39 passengers and four crew, descended more than 4,000 feet in less than a minute, but landed safely in Austin around 20:00 local time. Two passengers were transported to a hospital for evaluation, SkyWest confirmed.
The continuation of the flight to Houston International was cancelled.
The FAA said it will investigate the incident.
