United Airlines has resumed its seasonal nonstop service between Nuuk and Newark Liberty International Airport, restoring the only direct air link between Greenland and the United States.
The first flight of the 2026 summer season departed on June 6. United will operate the route twice weekly until September 23 using a Boeing 737 MAX 8.
The airline reports that more than 4,800 passengers used the route during its inaugural 2025 season, which consisted of 58 flights. The service links Greenland’s capital directly to United’s major Newark hub, where travellers can connect to more than 80 destinations across North and South America.
The return of the route comes as Scandinavian carrier SAS Scandinavian Airlines is not operating its Copenhagen–Nuuk service this year, making United’s presence particularly significant for Greenland’s international connectivity.
According to United executive Amit Badiani, the airline is pleased to return to Nuuk for the summer season. Greenland Airports has also welcomed the resumption, noting that the service helps attract international visitors and raises awareness of Greenland as a tourism destination.
For Greenland, the route provides not only direct access to the U.S. market but also convenient onward connections throughout the Americas via Newark, strengthening the territory’s growing integration into international air travel networks.
