A United Airlines Boeing 737-800 bound for Cebu made an emergency landing at Kansai International Airport in Osaka on Friday after cockpit indicators showed a possible cargo fire.
The plane, which departed from Narita with about 140 passengers and crew, evacuated via emergency slides, with five people sustaining minor injuries. No fire was found, but the incident briefly closed both Kansai runways.
Japan’s Transport Safety Board has launched a serious incident investigation, collecting flight data and interviewing crew to determine the cause.
