Uganda Airlines has placed its first-ever direct order with Boeing, committing to four 737-8 and four 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The order, announced at the Farnborough Airshow, will support the carrier’s fleet renewal and expansion plans as it seeks to strengthen its position as East Africa’s national airline.
The 737-8 will be deployed on regional routes within Africa as well as services to the Middle East and India, while the 787-9 Dreamliner will enable the airline to expand its long-haul network to destinations in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
Uganda Airlines said the new aircraft will help transform Entebbe into a regional aviation hub by improving connectivity, supporting tourism, trade, investment and cargo growth. The airline also highlighted the broader partnership with Boeing, which will include technical support, training and capacity-building.
According to Boeing, the 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner will reduce fuel consumption by 20-25% compared with the aircraft they replace, while providing the range and flexibility needed for the airline’s expanding network.
Uganda Airlines currently operates flights to 17 destinations in 13 countries from its hub at Entebbe International Airport.
